In 2003 British Waterways Board commissioned two
tactile interpretations of Wootton Wawen aqueduct
as part of the Edstone project. The brief required the
model to explain the impact of the canal on the landscape
and the construction and importance of aqueducts in the
canal system.

The model is fabricated from a range of different coloured
plastics and is contained within transit cases that also act
as display and building platforms. It is constructed in two
phases
showing the landscape before and after the
building of the aqueduct. Used on outreach visits to primary
schools the model is designed to involve the children in it’s
construction. The canal section can contain water when
fully assembled.

The model in use at local schools
supervised by BWB education officers.
